The IQuadrivium Society: Questions and Answers

I would like to join your Society. Do I need to fill out an application form?

There are no application forms necessary to apply for membership to The IQuadrivium Society. Instructions for application are included in the section on How to Apply for Membership.

Hi, could you send me information about your organization. I have just been accepted into ISPE, and have done the One-in-a-Thousand test too (just sent answers off a few days ago). I have 730 V 740 Q GRE scores also, sometimes that's high enough.

Information on the IQuadrivium society is now included on this Web site. As described in the section on Acceptance of Other Test Scores, proof of membership in ISPE would prove adequate, providing you meet the criteria described. Your GRE test score also qualifies you for membership as described in IQuadrivium Qualifying Test Scores.

I'd love to have info on IQuadrivium Society... I've been a life-member of ISPE since 1977 and currently also retain membership in TNS, serving as a member of the Psychometrics Committee.

We would be most happy to welcome you to The IQuadrivium Society. Please see How to Apply for Membership for application details. Your membership on the TNS Psychometrics Committee and your involvement in other societies would be a welcomed asset to IQuadrivium!

I couldn't find any information on your web page for joining. Could you email me instructions and cost?

Please refer to the sections on How to Apply for Membership and Membership Dues for more information.

Could you send me information on Four Sigma and Prometheus Societies? What are the tests/scores to get into these two societies? I have become largely disaffected with Mensa and Intertel.

First of all, let me say that I certainly understand your becoming "disinterested" with Mensa and Intertel (my personal opinions are showing!). Though advantages and disadvantages exist at all "levels" of the High IQ Society world, you may find that you enjoy not encountering those particular disadvantages that one tends to find in the aforementioned groups.

You asked about the Four Sigma Society. Admission to this society was originally based on one's achievement of a score at or above the 99.997th percentile of the general population (that's 1:30,000) on the Langdon Adult Intelligence Test (LAIT). This test was published in OMNI magazine, along with an interview with the Society's founder, Kevin Langdon. After this worldwide exposure, and the ensuing fame of the Four Sigma Society, the society's membership grew to several hundred worldwide. Scoring of the LAIT was ceased in December, 1993, and since that time, the incidence of new members has dropped, although Kevin continued to consider qualifying scores on other tests (of his) as sufficient for membership purposes. Although one can be a member of the Four Sigma Society, the Society is inactive. With recent debate surrounding the use of those tests devised by persons "not professionally qualified in the field of psychology and psychological assessment," and a related lawsuit, distribution and scoring of many of the tests once used for admission to the "Ultra-High IQ Societies," such as the Four Sigma Society and the Mega Society, have dropped dramatically.

The Prometheus Society is still active. Check my High IQ Society Page for more detailed information on and links to Prometheus.

The list of acceptable scores is quite extensive. I was wondering if you have considered any of the tests by Paul Cooijmans. His tests were recently deemed acceptable for TOPS and OATH. The FT that I show on my page is outdated, by the way. The current form contains only 52 items and he has begun charging to score the test. Additionally, Serendip was discarded and the Glia society has been founded and I am a member. The entrance requirement is 99.9 and exactly at 3.125 SD.

Thank you for the information. As for your question as to whether IQuadrivium plans to accept Cooijmans' test, as soon as a determination is made, acceptance information will be posted on this page. Interesting name, "Glia." If I were to have the choice, at least from a scientific rather than philosophical perspective, I'd rather be a neuron. :-)

I have got my results of the qualifying test for Mensa International. The test was a culture-free test and my IQ is 172 according to this test. A man of Mensa has written to me that I could be a member of other super smart IQ groups such as Four Sigma. I have no idea about what high IQ societies I might be eligible for with IQ of 172. Could you please give me an idea about this ? I would like to send them a copy of the letter from Mensa International which informed me of my IQ and I want to become a member of those groups.

With an IQ of 172 on a standard scale (with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 16), you would theoretically qualify for any society at or below the 99.997th percentile groups. These 99.997th percentile societies require an IQ score (mean 100, SD 16) of 164 or greater. As to whether or not you actually "qualify" for admission to a given society, that would depend on whether the test you took is an accepted vehicle of admission to that society and whether your score meets that society's cutoff criteria.

For information on which societies are available at this level, along with contact information, check the High IQ Society Page.

By the way, what are your dues and who would I make the check out to--you or the society?

Please refer to the sections on How to Apply for Membership and Membership Dues for more information on your first questions.

Do you ever have meetings?

We have had meetings in the past; however, there have been none since 1995. Meetings of the IQuadrivium Society have been held in (1) Portland, OR, (2) Vancouver, WA, and (3) Seattle, WA. Meetings of "affiliate groups" at the 99.9th percentile level were also held in northern Washington and in British Columbia, Canada.

Your qualifying LSAT score is listed as '764'. Since the test is out of 180, I'm assuming that the qualifying score is actually '164'; is that correct?

Yes, that's correct. The score of 764 as listed for the LSAT is a raw score.

Very nice start. The Triple Nine Society is starting a web site as well and I will pass along the address as soon as we finish up the beta test. What is the founding philosophy of the IQuadrivium Society? I qualify on the basis of both the LAIT and MEGA tests and would be interested.

Information on the philosophy of the IQuadrivium Society is now included on this site. Please do not hesitate to email me if you have additional questions.

Who does your web site design?

I do. Not only do I enjoy it, but I'd be terrified to let someone else screw things up. ;-) One has to question my sanity, though, as I am webmastering seven sites at this time. And with a newborn baby, time is almost as precious as he is!

What kind of people usually join the IQuadrivium Society?

Intelligent. :-)
