Original statement of purpose, as published
in Phoenix in 1994:
- The IQuadrivium Society is an organization comprised of individuals
scoring at or above the 99.9th percentile of the general population
on a standardized test of intelligence. Members of the Society are primarily
residents of Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, though qualifying
individuals in other areas are
welcomed to participate in the Society's activities and may be considered
members. The Society's purpose is to promote and encourage interaction
within its membership, to facilitate the exchange of ideas, and to provide
a sense of intellectual community in the Pacific Northwest.

Philosophy of The IQuadrivium Society
- It is no secret to those familiar
with the workings of the "Super High IQ Societies" that there
tends sometimes to be more fighting, personal attacks, and ongoing battles
gracing the pages of these societies' journals than many members would
prefer to see. I cannot say that I do not know many of these individuals,
or that some of them are not my friends; however, this does not change
the fact that I consider such behavior potentially counterproductive
to the High IQ community as a whole, and to the societies themselves.
- The IQuadrivium Society was founded
as a group of individuals at or above the 99.9th percentile, many of
whom were members of "opposing societies." This was fully
intentional. It has always been my opinion that the purpose of such
societies should not be to create and foster warring factions and to
create deep rifts in the High IQ community, but rather to encourage
more positive outcomes. Ideally, a society like this should be able
to serve its membership and the High IQ community in several ways. Not
only can it provide a means for such people to meet and form productive
and enjoyable relationships, but it can also provide a forum for the
open exchange of ideas and the development of theories, projects, and
creative works.

The IQuadrivium Society was founded in February, 1994, by Karyn S. Huntting.
She was the youngest person ever to found a High IQ Society, and at the
time was the world's only female High IQ Society founder.
The beginnings of the Society, prior to its official founding, were primarily
aimed at gathering members of what are known as the "Super High IQ
Societies" together in the Northwest for informal meetings and potluck
dinners. The initial mailings to members of these societies and selected
guests were made, and the first events jointly hosted by, Karyn S. Huntting
and Kevin Langdon.
After Langdon's return to Berkeley, CA, Karyn went on to formally found
The IQuadrivium Society, using the already established local group as
a base membership and expanding upon that membership in the regions of
Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.
Approximately 45 individuals, mostly in Oregon and Washington, went on
to officially join The IQuadrivium Society. Though this number was small
in comparison to the total memberships of the larger 99.9th percentile
societies, such as ISPE and TNS, it was in reality quite large considering
the relatively small geographical area covered by the regional society.
