The Difficulty With Diagnosis
Because of the variety of neurological symptoms that exhibit in Basilar Artery
Migraine, and because of the fact that it is considered so rare, it is often an extremely
difficult diagnosis to make.
A majority of neurologists, not to mention general practitioners or other clinicians,
have never diagnosed a case of Basilar Artery Migraine. A patient with BAM is fortunate if
he or she can find a neurologist who has had significant experience with Basilar Artery
Migraine patients.
Due to the symptoms often associated with BAM, this neurological disorder can be
confused with several other disorders and conditions. It takes a doctor or neurologist who
not only knows about and is familiar with Basilar Artery Migraine, but also one who
actually thinks of it during the diagnostic process. This is quite often easier said than
done.
If a patient has some knowledge of Basilar Artery Migraine and suspects that it may be
a possible suspect disorder, the patient should feel comfortable in asking their
neurologist to consider Basilar Artery Migraine in the diagnostic process and to discuss
the possible diagnosis with them.
